I was lucky to get an interview with Kerry Kennedy the author of the psychological thriller Who's Watching Who.
Please, tell us a bit about yourself…
I live in Spain having moved here three years ago with my life-partner, four cats and my chihuahua. When I am not writing you can find me rock climbing or biking. I am an avid sports person and have run multiple marathons, ultras and half-ironman's.
Why should I buy your books?
Who's Watching Who is a gripping, psychological thriller that tells the story of a young woman who is desperate to get out of a mentally abusive relationship. She has a plan to seek revenge on her perpetrator, Jonathan. The books tells the story of Clare and her plans, flicking between the present and the past, four-years ago. It's a fast-paced story about one woman's desperation to have her revenge.
What got you into writing? And how long have you been doing it?
I've been writing ever since I was a young girl, my earliest memories are from around the age of eight. I would write short stories. As I became a young adult I kept having so many ideas for books and one day, Dakota my debut novel came to me and I wrote the book.
Why did you choose to write thrillers?
I am a multi-genre author and don't have a specific genre that I write. I ordinarily go with the flow of my thoughts and ideas. Currently my two books for adults, Dakota and Who's Watching Who are suspense-thrillers. However, I also write children's books. Boris Flies to the Moon and Boris Meets Father Christmas, are both currently available on Amazon. Two of twelve in the series of Boris Cat. My current work in progress, is a romantic comedy that will be released on Valentines day, followed by a Horror story and a sequel to the romcom, during 2023. I also have the plot down for a futuristic story, which will also be released in 2023.
Which other author has had the biggest influence on your writing?
I'd say Stephen King has had a massive influence on me as a writer. He shows us that you should go with your instinct about writing and have no inhibitions when it comes to your creativity. His success story is astonishing and admirable.
What’s the best thing about being a writer?
For me, the best thing about being a writer is not just the creation of the stories and getting to do what you love the most. It is also about being intrinsically satisfied that people are reading your books and really enjoying them. It's an amazing feeling to know that you are bringing and giving something to other people that love to read.
What’s the hardest thing about being a writer?
The hardest thing about being a writer for me personally, is the editing. I do the whole process myself and as a true writer, I do procrastinate an awful lot.
Do you have any tips or an author app, tool, or resource that you can really recommend we try?
For anyone who is looking to start a writing career, firstly I'd say it is important to write daily, it is also vital that you believe in yourself and have confidence. It is only natural to think what if no-one wants to read my book or like it, they will and that you need to be assured of. You also need to be prepared to put in a lot of time and dedication to networking and getting yourself known out there. This takes a lot of time but it's worth it in the end. Lastly, I would say hold on to your dream and never let it go.
And now it's time to yank out your Palantir! Let’s talk about the future. What new projects are you working on?
Future projects as mentioned earlier include a romcom and a sequel during 2023, alongside a Horror book release also in 2023 and a futuristic book. I will also be producing another three or four books in the, Boris cat series in 2023. Who knows after that what will take over my mind. However, there will be plenty of books coming. It'll be a crazy 2023 but one I'm very much looking forward to.
Do you expect new technologies to come along soon that will have a huge impact on self-publishing? For instance, when will we see a decent novel written by an AI author?
I think technology is moving at a rate of knots and it isn't beyond the realms of believe, that sooner or later there will an AI author. It's only programming after all.
Do you have any dreams you’d like to share?
My dream would be to see my books made into movies or a mini-series. I would also love to see the Boris series of books really take off, with merchandise of little Boris cat toys and his brothers and sisters, t-shirts, mugs you name it. A whole world of Boris would be fantastic.
Anything else you would like to say before we close?
I'd like to thank you for the opportunity of being interviewed. It's always a pleasure to be able to let people know about myself and to have an insight into being an author.
Thank you for doing the interview. I wish you the very best of luck, and I hope you find many new readers for all your books.
