Privacy Policy

Dear reader,

On this page, you can read what data my webpage provider stores about you automatically (such as cookies and other analytics data,) and about the privacy of the emails I use to mail fans.

Be assured:

  • I will not sell your email or data.

  • I will not swap your email or data with others.

Protecting your data
I strive to keep your data safe and private by adhering to the seven principles of the GDPR made to protect us from data exploitation (GDPR is the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation.)

That said, I pay to use various systems that show me a bit about you when you visit my homepage or sign up for one of my newsletters. Once in a while, I take a peek at the analytics to learn how to improve. My goal is that the fans can find all the best free stuff I upload, and sure, I hope to sell a few books along the way. It costs money to host the site, and like you, I do need to eat.

What can I see about you?
First a bit about what happens when you buy one of my books through a link you clicked on RuneSNielsen.com.

Visitor data

I can’t see your name, email, or any information about your browser or anything like that when you buy my books, T-shirts, coffee mugs, or other stuff.

This is because you can’t actually buy anything on my site. Each ‘buy the book’ or ‘buy merchandise’ button on RuneSNielsen.com links out of my website. Sending you to shops hosted by companies that sell books or merchandise.

They sell you my stuff.

The shops I link to are, to the best of my knowledge, well-respected and do what they can to keep your data safe. As I strive to do. Most of them are large companies such as Amazon and Apple Books, but there are also smaller companies such as Draft2Digital and RedDot.

Please, refer to those companies’ individual privacy policy pages regarding what data they collect about you.

They provide me with only very limited data when someone buys something of mine, like the date on which they sold what number of items.

EmailS

I have two newsletters. A great deals newsletter and my author newsletter.

Author Newsletter
News about my new releases. I send you a personal end-of-year message with stuff about what I did during the year, upcoming projects, fun stuff for fans, and my best holiday wishes.

Great deals newsletter
Deals on fantasy books from various authors. I do not have a regular schedule when I send this out (read: I send it out once in a while.)

Your data and newsletters
I use a combination of Squarespace, Bookfunnel, and Mailchimp forms where you sign up with your email to receive future emails from me. Your email is stored in one of these systems, and since I do not ask you to provide anything beyond your email I do not know who you are.

If you are interested in how Mailchimp stores and protects your data please refer to their privacy policy.

If I bother to look at it I can about the same as on my webpage (in some of the systems while others give me basically nothing.) In some of the systems, I can see whether you opened a specific newsletter or clicked on a link, in others what kind of device you use (like mobile or laptop,) as well as your country, and IP. However, this does not always work (for instance Apple Mail and certain apps will keep your data more secure.)

Unsubscribe
In each newsletter, you’ll find an unsubscribe link. Use this if you no longer wish to receive those emails.

I will never sell your email address to any third parties.

Website analytics

As an author, I have a website so I can tell readers what I do. I use the Squarespace service to host RuneSNielsen.com. As part of their service, they provide analytics, giving me some idea about who visits.

Squarespace collects data about you each time your browser visits my site, and once in a while, I take a peek at the analytics to learn how to improve. It costs money to host the site, after all.

If you wonder what kinds of analytics data Squarespace collects about your browser when you visit, then I copied the texts on the rest of this page from them:

“… This website is hosted by Squarespace. Squarespace collects personal data when you visit this website, including:

  • Information about your browser, network and device

  • Web pages you visited prior to coming to this website

  • Your IP address …”

“… Squarespace needs the data to run this website and to protect and improve its platform and services. Squarespace analyzes the data in a de-personalized form.

“… Fonts
