I was lucky to get an interview with author Brian Sherlock, who wrote White Season.
Please, tell us a bit about yourself…
I'm an indie author born and raised in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia - I enjoy backpacking and popular culture and have attempted to merge both loves to positive results.
Why should I buy your book?
White Season is a new adult comedy set on the Australian snowfields - it focuses on Toby (a timid CODA) and EJ (an angry bisexual) who form a friendship they come to reply upon.
What got you into writing?
I'm 34 and discovered my love for storytelling at the age of eight - safe to say it's something I'm fully committed to.
Why did you choose to write this book?
I've worked several seasons in the snowfields and saw a lot that I felt could be turned into a humorous read - adding to that it's been a goal of mine to write an Australiana novel and I'm quite certain that White Season might be the only Australian novel that focuses on this kind of setting (I'm happy to be proven wrong about this).
Which authors have had the greatest influence on you?
A few authors who come to mind include Jay Kristoff, Tim Winton and David Mitchell.
What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Getting away from the real world and holding a paperback in one's hands for the first time.
What’s the hardest thing about being a writer?
Book promotion - it stumps me all the time.
Do you have any tips or an author app, tool, or resource that you can really recommend we try?
For me, personally, when I need to get creative juices flowing I go for a walk around a body of water (river, lake etc) - this trick has served me well.
And now it's time to yank out your Palantir! Let’s talk about the future. What new projects are you working on?
I am all over the place at the moment - I have ideas for several reads but I really can't settle on which one I want to go ahead with. Once I've finished adulting I'll hammer out another manuscript.
Do you have any dreams you’d like to share?
The dream is to get my book into as many hands as possible and hear those readers tell me how much they enjoyed it - it's a long shot but it's something I'll gun for for sure.
Thank you for doing the interview Brian . I hope lots of readers find your book out there…in the white.
