Top of the Morning

The Morning Show, season 1

I got a 1-year free subscription to Apple TV with a purchase of an Apple device and “fell in love” with The Morning Show.

You might have gotten the same kind of offer and been too skeptical to use it. How good can it be if it’s free? Are they not just trying to make me forget to cancel the subscription, so I end up paying them month after month?

Perhaps, but before you lose interest, there’s some GREAT stuff on Apple TV, so I suggest you sign up, watch some of that, and if you don't fall in love with the service, you can always end the subscription.

So, what’s this Great Stuff?

First off, the Morning Show. WOW! There's a reason this is a Golden Globe award-winning show.

All 10 episodes were brilliant. The themes were current and relevant, and I have never seen Reese Witherspoon act so well. Her portrayal of the new host Bradley Jackson is epic.

Jennifer Aniston (who I loved in Friends, but who's acting I have not been a big fan of since I’m sorry to say) also does a great job portraying Alex Levy, the TV-host all of America knows.

I think this is my favorite show since watching Glow (oh why, did you cancel Glow?).

The show is inspired by Top of The Morning by Brian Stelter. I haven’t read the book, but I should. We have to support great writers.

If you like shows about tv-shows, or political shows like West Wing, or simply good acting, I can highly recommend the Morning Show. Even the actors in all the smaller parts do a tremendous job.

I especially liked Billy Crudup, Martin Short, and Karen Pittman, but Gugu Mbat Raw, Mark Duplass, Bel Powley, Nestor Carbonell, Steve Carell, and the rest does a great job as well.

So, what else is on Apple TV?

Well, for instance, there is a great film with Ciara Bravo and Tom Holland (though, this role is EXTREMELY far away from Spiderman.)

Cherry is worth watching, for sure.

And later this year they will air (can you say "air" any longer? Sound incredibly old-fashioned,) Foundation!

Only, a show based on one of my all-time favorite and classic sci-fi series, Isaak Asimov's Foundation. I really hope they nail it.

Is it all good?

Nope, the volume or the depth can’t compare to Netflix, HBO, Viaplay, and other streaming services.

I used the Xbox App to watch Apple TV, and the player seemed old-fashioned to me (how hard can it be to rip Netflix's player off?) The Apple player had the annoying habit of (if it lost net access for a bit) going ten minutes backward. I then had to fast-forward, and worse, once an episode was done, the only way to get to the next episode was to exit the show, go to the search functionality, find the page about the show, and manually select the next episode. How 2008 is that? Deep sigh.

That said, I still LOVED the morning show. This in itself speaks volumes about how good it is.

Go watch some Apple TV (as long as it’s free.)
