Author Interview: Thomas Leslie McRae
I was lucky to get an interview with Thomas Leslie McRae, the author of Lyrical Revelations.
Please tell us about yourself?
Hello my name is Thomas McRae I'm a poet, author and writer. Who are you? I'm a hard worker, dedicated family man and loyal to a fault. Anything interesting you would like to share? I have a loving heart and good spirit, I'm also very focused on getting my poetry out there and very interested in being a business partner too anyone with has a respectable small business. What country do you live in? I'm a African American born and raised in the United States of America. And your nationality? Black and very proud.
Why should people buy your book?
Lyrical Revelations is a very powerful, sincere and genuinely good book. It's full of mixed emotions and humble truth. My poetry is inspired by what I see what I know and what I generally believe. I humbly think anyone and everyone can relate to at least one Poem.
What got you into writing?
Watching my brother right, my environment and my family structure all played a significant part in my writing.
And how long have you been doing it?
I've been writing since I was a kid but never fully appreciated the significance until I got older now I see why I write not only because it's therapeutic but most of what I write is very inspirational and very fulfilling & the truth.
Why did you choose to write poetry? And why pick this particular genre?
Poetry is who I am and it's the foundation to my writing and the essence too the creative aspect of my soul.
Which other author has had the biggest influence on your writing?
Maya Angelou, Richard Wright, Nikki Giovanni and so many more.
What's the best thing about being a writer?
The ability to write at your own pace whatever and wherever and however you like.
What's the hardest thing about being a writer?
You start having a severe case of writer's block and it takes you awhile to shake it off and get back to work.
Which is more important loyalty or respect?
It depends on the person but if I have to answer I'm going with loyalty because you can't trust someone who isn't loyal let alone respect them.
Which you like more your regular job or writing?
I like writing more but now that I'm in a new work location I'm liking my job a lot better, the people are better the atmosphere is better and the environment is better. Trust me when I say change is a good thing and change literally saved my life.
Do you have any tips or any advice for upcoming author's?
Work on your craft do your research and always be patient because good things come to those that wait.
Let's talk about the future what new projects are you working on?
I'm currently working on another poetry book, I haven't figured out when exactly I'm going to put it out. Because I'm focused on promoting lyrical Revelations at the time being but when I do put out the next poetry book it'll be with Eber and Wein Publishing.
Do you have any dreams you'd like to share?
I would love to be my own boss or business partner, finding love would be an amazing and blissful adventure and just being able to enjoy life and finally find a peace of mind and truly be happy.
